Thomas Janssens is the global practice group leader of Freshfields’ antitrust, competition and trade group. He is also an active member of the firm’s Africa initiative. His practice focuses on Belgian, EU and international antitrust law, covering transactional and behavioural matters as well as related litigation. He regularly guides clients through complex multi-jurisdictional matters, managing cross-border challenges and parallel proceedings before multiple authorities as well as leading teams of Freshfields lawyers and local counsel around the world. Clients value Thomas’s ability to work across borders on both the acquisition and sales sides of mandates.
Last year, Thomas continued to assist Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), the world’s largest brewer with its global headquarters in Belgium, on its defence of an investigation launched by the European Commission into alleged abuse of dominance on the Belgian beer market relating to parallel trade with neighbouring countries. AB InBev received a Statement of Objections from the Commission in November 2017.
