James Musgrove is the co-chair of McMillan's competition and antitrust practice.
James is a council member of the ABA section of antitrust law; past chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s national competition law section; and past president of the Toronto Lawyers' Association. He is a 2014 winner of the GCR award for Behavioural Matter of the Year (Americas), and in 2015 was named Toronto’s Advertising and Marketing Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers.
James has been recognized as a leading competition lawyer in The American Lawyer/Lexpert Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada; Who's Who Legal: Canada; GCR; Chambers Global; Best Lawyers in Canada; PLC Which Lawyer; Euromoney Guide to the World's Leading Competition and Antitrust Lawyers; Lexpert Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-Border Litigation Lawyers; and Lexpert Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers, among others.
James is editor-in-chief of Fundamentals of Canadian Competition Law published by CBA/Carswell; founding editor of the Toronto Law Journal; a designated contributor to Canadian Advertising and Marketing Law; and the author of the competition law chapter in The Canada Corporations Law Reporter, published by CCH Canada Limited. He is the co-editor of the TerraLex Pre-Merger Notification Manual, and editor of Competition Law for the 21st Century, Juris Publishing, 1998.
James is active as an NGA adviser to the International Competition Network's unilateral conduct, cartel and mergers working groups, and has participated in most ICN annual general meetings, as well as numerous workshops and teleseminars as a speaker and facilitator. He is a contributor to various ICN working group reports and workbooks.
James holds an early modern history degree and an LLB from the University of Toronto, and an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
