Hiroko Shibata is a partner of the M&A and Corporate Group at Nishimura & Asahi. Her practice focuses on domestic and cross-border merger and acquisitions, and also involves extensive experience in a wide variety of corporate governance matters, including those related to executive compensation and employee benefits. She also frequently deals with structuring stock options and class shares, not only for incentive plans, but also for strategic alliances.
In addition to business law matters, from 2008 to 2009, she served as deputy director of the economic treaties division, the International Legal Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and helped negotiate free trade agreements and investment agreements, where she strengthened her expertise in regulations, especially restrictions on foreign investments imposed over cross-border transactions.
She is a graduate of the University of Tokyo (LL.B., 1998) and the University of California, Berkeley (LL.M., 2007). She is admitted to practice law in Japan (2001) and New York (2008).
