Jonathan’s family business was cotton spinning in the north-west, but he started his career in the law. He joined City law firm DJ Freeman in 1987 and specialised in commercial property. Clients ranged from the developers of Spitalfields, opposite Liverpool Street station, to overseas institutional investors, entrepreneurial private property companies and listed occupiers. Jonathan was made partner at DJ Freeman before moving to Lewis Silkin in 2001.
Jonathan acted for Woodsford Commercial Properties during the property recession of the 1990s and helped the company acquire a mixed-use and UK-wide portfolio of real estate assets. The investment was later successfully realised by way of a corporate sale.
In 2006 Jonathan joined Woodsford Consulting as a director. In 2007/8 he led the successful sale of Europa Park, Central Europe’s premier single location logistics and distribution centre, against the backdrop of a deepening credit crunch.
Jonathan has been a director of Woodsford Litigation Funding since our foundation in 2010, and in 2016 he was elected to the board of the Association of Litigation Funders.
