Samuel Gauci joined Addisons in April 2019 from Malta where he qualified as a warranted advocate. He graduated from the University of Malta in 2005 as a Doctor of Laws and was admitted to the Bar in Malta in 2007. His gambling law experience arises from his previous roles as a regulator at the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and in a leading Maltese gambling law firm.
His experience as a regulator allows him to better understand a regulator’s requirements and concerns which enable him to advise in a more efficient manner aimed at finding a solution to address the regulator’s ultimate goal. In private practice, Sam developed a better understanding of operators’ broader business concerns and goals. This combination gives him a more comprehensive understanding of the online gambling operator’s reality, where business targets need to be met while ensuring that those targets are achieved in compliance with the requirements that apply to the highly regulated gambling sector.
Regulatory and compliance advice is one of Sam’s core skills and enables him to assist and advise clients on licence application processes, preparation of relevant documentation, drafting and review of agreements, due diligence review and advice, reporting requirements, compliance with licence conditions, advertising requirements, and gambling audits. He has also contributed to a number of due diligence and licensing reviews for mergers and acquisitions of gambling operators.
Sam has advised international gambling operators varying in size from start-ups to large companies, both in the online sector as well as the terrestrial.
