Azamat Kuatbekov is a managing partner of the Almaty office of Baker McKenzie. Mr Kuatbekov has solid experience in the natural resources sector, advising clients on dispute resolution, acquisitions and financing. Before joining the Almaty office of Baker McKenzie he had worked with the legal department of the national oil company Kazakoil. He has authored numerous articles on oil and gas, corporate law, bankruptcy and litigation in Kazakhstan and has acted for many major power companies in Kazakhstan.
Areas of expertise
Mr Kuatbekov mainly advises large multinational clients in the natural resources sector. He has also acted for investors in connection with bankruptcy acquisitions.
Education and admission
Mr Kuatbekov graduated (with honours) from the Karaganda State University, Kazakhstan in 1996. He received his Master of Comparative Law from Indiana University, USA in 1997.
Languages: In addition to his native Kazakh, Mr Kuatbekov is fluent in English and Russian.
