Berkan graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Law in 2013 and then was admitted to the Istanbul Bar Association in 2014, following which he joined the Inal team.
He took a short break from his career at Inal between 2016 and 2017 as he was admitted to the master’s degree program in European and International Energy Law at Technische Universität Berlin. Upon the submission of his thesis on “Impact Analysis of Third Party Access and Exemption Regimes in Gas Transportation in the European Union and Turkey”, he graduated in 2017, and then re-joined the team.
He provides legal consultancy to both local and international clients in the fields of shipping, shipbuilding, ship finance, energy, arbitration, dispute resolution, corporate and commercial. In particular, his practices include ship and yacht building projects, ship finance, cargo claims, ship arrest, renewables, gas and LNG contracts, gas and electricity transportation, power plant construction and licensing, enforcement of foreign court judgments and arbitral awards.
Berkan has a notable knowledge and experience in shipbuilding, including free zone regulations, as well as in disputes arising out of newbuilding projects. As the member of the leading firm, he took key roles in various complex ship finance and shipbuilding projects that involved multiple jurisdictions, law firms and institutions.
He is listed as one of a few legal practitioners specialized in FSRUs and offshore platforms in Turkey.
