Alexander Godínez Vargas is a specialist in Labor Law who currently serves as advisor and represents in legal proceedings national (public and private sector) and multinational companies.
He obtained his law degree from the University of Costa Rica. Subsequently, he obtained his PhD in Labour Law and Social Security from the Law Department of Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain.
Currently he serves as Professor of Labour Law in the Faculty of Law at University of Costa Rica and as Professor and Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Law at the State Distance University of Costa Rica. In the same way he is a number academician of the Iberoamerican Academy of Labor and Social Security.
Dr. Godinez Vargas past occupations include: former judge of the Labor Tribunal of the Second Court Circuit of San José, former Substitute Magistrate of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, Senior Technical Adviser of the Project for Strengthening Labour Justice in Central America and the Dominican Republic of the International Labor Organization (Sub regional Office located in San José), Ex Advisor to the Higher Labor Council and the Minister of Labor and Social Security and former President of the Costa Rican Association of Labor Law and Social Security.
He has also won the "Alberto Brenes Córdoba" award from the Bar Association of Costa Rica, to the best legal work (1998).
Among his publications in English is "Costa Rica" in International Encyclopaedia of Laws: Labour Law and Industrial Relations (Wolters Kluwer, 2018).
