Geert Goeteyn, a partner in Shearman & Sterling’s Brussels and London offices, advises on all areas of EU and UK competition, merger and regulatory law. He is dual qualified to practice law in Belgium and in England & Wales, and holds an LLM in European Law. Geert has represented a large number of clients in a wide variety of industries including agricultural seeds, automotive, biotechnology, consumer goods, oil, paper, telecommunications and high-tech. He advises clients on complex antitrust issues including merger remedy cases, cartel related issues (both in the context of European Commission investigations and private damages actions) and abuse of dominance cases. Geert has particular experience in the application of EC competition and regulatory law in the aviation sector. He has been involved, either as a representative of the parties or on behalf of a third party intervener, in almost all of the aviation cases that have shaped European competition law policy in the sector. He has been consistently nominated by his peers as one of the world’s leading aviation lawyers in the International Who’s Who of Aviation Lawyers and has been identified by Euromoney as one of the top 20 aviation lawyers in the world. Geert is frequently quoted in the press, regularly contributes to books and journals and is an editor of the aviation chapter of the Butterworths Competition Law Encyclopedia.
