Alexander Klauser is one of the founding partners of bkp and heads the firm’s practice groups on Dispute Resolution and Insolvency & Restructuring. He is a member of the Austrian Bar, of the Insolvency Section of the International Bar Association (IBA), which he co-chaired in 2007/2008, and of the International Insolvency Institute. Alexander’s main practice areas are civil and commercial law (with an emphasis on consumer law, banking and finance, and tort law), Austrian and European civil procedure, and insolvency law. Alexander is also a registered insolvency administrator. Alexander holds a law degree from the University of Vienna and a Diploma in Advanced International Studies from the University of the Pacific/McGeorge School of Law. He teaches civil procedure at the University of Vienna and the Austrian Attorneys Academy, and is the author of leading Austrian commentaries on civil procedure and insolvency law. In the present context (class actions), Alexander has contributed to developing, and putting into practice, the ‘class action Austrian style’. Furthermore, he was a member of the expert group set up by the Austrian Ministry of Justice to develop suitable mechanisms for processing mass claims.
