Joon Young Kim is an attorney at Kim & Chang. His practice focuses on Insurance, E-Finance & Fintech, Non-bank Financial Companies, Corporate Governance, Mergers & Acquisitions and Foreign Direct Investment.
Mr. Kim regularly advises financial industry clients including insurance, e-finance & fintech, and non-bank financial companies on regulatory, governance, and corporate law issues. He has also successfully advised clients in disputes and litigation, as well as in responding to inquiries or investigations from relevant government regulators. Mr. Kim has extensive experience in corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and foreign direct investment matters, particularly for clients in the financial industry. He also regularly advises on legal issues relating to the latest innovations and technology such as blockchain technology, crypto-currency and cloud computing.
Mr. Kim has been published on various Korean and international journals, including his contribution as a co-author of “Legal Issues on the Variable Insurance as an Asset Management Product” (BFL, Seoul National Univ. Financial Law Center) and “The Insurance & Reinsurance Law Review (2nd-3rd edition): Korea chapter” (Law Business Research). He was selected as the Next Generation Lawyer for two years running in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2017 and 2018 editions.
Mr. Kim received an LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 2016 and received his law degree from Seoul National University (LL.M. in 2009, LL.B. in 2005). He also graduated from Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea in 2007. He is admitted to the Korea bar in 2007 and passed the New York bar exam in 2016.
