In the field of litigation and dispute resolution, transactions of significance in which Jorge has led include representing several banks in various major litigation matters. He represented a major airline company (1) in a petition for the nullification of a certification issued by the Department of Energy effectively subjecting its importations of aviation fuel to excise taxes, (2) in securing a favorable decision by the Supreme Court in a claim for refund of excise taxes on imported aviation fuel passed on to it by a petroleum company, and (3) in various claims for refund of excise taxes valued at approximately USD 100 million on importation of aviation fuel and crucial for future tax exemptions of approximately USD 10 million per year.
Jorge has an active arbitration practice which includes participating in arbitration proceedings before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre followed by proceedings before the Singapore High Court and Singapore Court of Appeal (2012-2015), and successfully securing a favorable decision for a consortium of domestic banks in a legal matter involving the sum of USD 295 million.
In the field of banking & finance, Jorge advised several publicly-listed universal banks on the disclosure of particular bank documents of a corporate client to the Bureau of Internal Revenue and a major commercial bank on loan documentation matters.
