Dr Brian Hsiang-Yang Hsieh is a partner at Formosa Transnational, Attorneys at Law. He focuses his practice in the areas of intellectual property, administrative law, competition law, and data protection. He has been teaching constitutional law and administrative law in academic institutions for years.
Dr Hsieh obtained his JSD from the School of Law, Washington University in St Louis in 2012. His JSD dissertation, titled “A Comparative Study on the Constitutional Jurisprudences of Information Privacy in Germany, the United States, and Taiwan,” explored in-depth information privacy and its interaction with many competing values, such as freedom of speech and national security. He has been publishing papers and regularly speaking about privacy and data protection.
Dr Hsieh advises clients in various industries on privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, and breach response. He is experienced in helping clients to respond to consumer complaints in relation to data breaches and to respond to follow-up inquiries from regulators. He successfully defended an online platform against an alleged data leak claim. In addition, he has been giving clients with guidance on regulatory frameworks in relation to a wide range of industries, most of which are subject to heightened governmental supervision and regulations.
