Tessa de Mönnink is specialized in commercial contract law, with a strong focus on distribution, franchise and agency agreements, both on a national and international level. Tessa also advises and litigates regularly on licensing, collaboration, service and delivery agreements and ICT contracts. Her client list includes well-known fashion houses and department stores, supermarket chains and electronics producers. Her sector-specific knowledge enables her to provide very high-quality legal services and to respond quickly to critical questions.
Tessa is one of the founders and chairwoman of the Dutch Association for Distribution, Franchise and Agency Law (Vereniging DFA) and she is the Dutch Expert in Franchise Law for the International Distribution Institute (IDI).
Tessa regularly publishes articles for legal journals, including a scholarly article on distribution and agency law for the Dutch Jurists Weekly Magazine (Nederlands Juristen Blad – NJB) and on franchise for the journal ‘Overeenkomst in de Rechtspraktijk”. She also speaks on a regular basis on seminars, both in The Netherlands and abroad.
Who’s Who Legal Franchise has identified Tessa for years as franchise expert in the Netherlands and in 2017 Tessa was awarded by Who’s Who Legal Franchise as ‘Leading Individual’: “At De Grave De Mönnink Spliet Advocaten, Tessa de Mönnink impresses clients with “her great knowledge, mastery of franchising law and her ability to implement our wishes”. They add, “She is an expert in her field and it shows.” In 2018 Tessa has again been awarded as ‘Leading Individual’: “Tessa de Mönnink is a leading light at De Grave De Mönnink Spliet. She is an expert in commercial contracts and impresses clients with “her ability to combine legal matters with business interests and provide really helpful suggestions”.
Tessa graduated in 1998 from the University of Amsterdam and studied at New York University School of Law (US) in the context of a student exchange program. In 2004, Tessa successfully completed a post-graduate course in Information Technology Law at the Grotius Academy, Nijmegen University. Tessa worked for more than 11 years at the global law firm of Allen & Overy LLP and its predecessor Loeff Claeys Verbeke, before she (co-)founded her own boutique law firm. She has been a lawyer for over 20 years.
