Charles is the Senior Partner of the firm with 21 years’ experience in energy, mining, and infrastructure, as well as corporate, banking and finance law. He is also recognized as a national expert on mining law in Zambia, advising companies including FQM, Rio Tinto, Barrick Gold, ENRC, Vale, Blackthorn Resources, RTG Mining and others on all aspects of their business. Some of his recent mining transactions include advising Intrepid Mines Zambia regarding the sale of all the share capital in its wholly owned Zambian subsidiaries, the Mumbwa Project and the Kitumba Project to Ralior Limited; and FQML on the development of the USD 2 billion Trident Project in north-west Zambia, with an annual producing capacity of 270,000 to 300,000 tons of copper.
Charles has also been instrumental on most of the country’s pioneering projects in the renewable energy space from project structuring to development and implementation. He led deal teams on the development of a 47.5MW power plant under round 1 of the Scaling Solar Project, the first of its kind in Zambia, by France’s NEOEN- First Solar Inc. consortium and is currently advising Access Zambia Wind One Limited, on the first wind independent power production project in Zambia.
