Sergio joined Santamarina y Steta, SC in 1998 and became a partner in 2009. He is a corporate and financial lawyer with more than 20 years of experience representing local and foreign lenders, sponsors, borrowers and governments in a large number of financial transactions, including private equity and venture capital, of infrastructure projects, public offerings, securitisations and privatisations. He also has broad experience in designing and implementing operations related to public works, public procurement and public-private associations.
Sergio has written and lectured on legal topics related to PPPs projects, securitisations, project finance and infrastructure and banking and finance.
He earned his law degree with honours in 1998 from the Escuela Libre de Derecho in Mexico City, a master’s degree in 2002 in European Union Law by Universidad Carlos III in Spain and a PhD with honours by the Universidad Complutense in Madrid on Constitutional Law in January 2016.
