Sergio’s practice includes more than 20 years of professional experience advising Mexican and foreign companies in project finance and infrastructure, banking and finance, capital markets, corporate, M&A, as well as securities, derivatives and fintech law. He has represented local and foreign lenders, sponsors, borrowers, issuers, investors, financial intermediaries and promoters. He has also represented government entities in many banking and financial transactions and securitisations including private capital and venture capital, and public offers, as well as the design and implementation of public tenders and PPOs. In addition, he has broad experience advising the public sector in designing and structuring operations related to public works, public procurement, and public-private partnerships (PPPs), which includes the drafting of the latest Federal Law of Special Economic Zones, which was created to enhance the economic and social development of Mexico.
He has participated as a speaker in several national and international forums such as LatinFinance Mexican Financial Summit, LatinFinance Infrastructure and Sub-Sovereign Finances Summit, IMEF National Infrastructure Forum, IJ Global Latin American Energy and Infrastructure Finance Forum, among others.
He earned his law degree with honours from the Escuela Libre de Derecho, an LLM in European Union Law by the Universidad Carlos III in Spain and a PhD in law with honours by the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain.
