Dirk-Jan Maasland has been practising as a private client lawyer / deputy civil law notary since 2004. Early 2017 he joined the Family Owned Business & Private Wealth Practice Group at Loyens & Loeff in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Dirk-Jan focuses on consultancy with regard to (international) estate and succession planning, family governance and the handling of complex, often cross-border estates. He has a degree in both private and tax law. He passed the notarial professional training and the Grotius specialisation course on estate planning with distinction. Dirk-Jan is a member of the editorial staff of the Dutch specialist journal on inheritance law (Tijdschrift Erfrecht), as well as a permanent associate of the Dutch weekly legal journal for civil law notaries (WPNR). He is the author of various publications in the field of inheritance law and estate planning and regularly lectures on these topics. Dirk-Jan is a member of the International Bar Association (IBA) as well as the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), where he serves as a member of the steering committee of the Cross-Border Estates Global Special Interest Group.
