Juan Sebastián has extensive experience structuring financial transactions, including project finance, syndicated loans, derivatives, repos and securitisations. Juan Sebastián has advised national and international banks, multilateral creditors, investment firms and private equity funds in syndicated loan transactions, in transactions for the financing of infrastructure in Colombia and several of the most relevant capital markets transactions.
Juan Sebastián has worked closely in recent years with the Colombian Banking Association (ASOBANCARIA) on local and foreign financial regulation matters. Particularly, Juan Sebastián advised the Colombian Banking Association, together with two US-based law firms, on the impact of Dodd–Frank Act and EMIR in Colombia. He has been regarded by his peers as an expert on these matters.
Juan Sebastián is a lawyer from the School of Law of Universidad del Rosario. He holds postgraduate degrees from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain, and a specialisation degree in financial and capital markets law from Universidad Externado de Colombia. Juan Sebastián also holds a master’s of Laws (LLM) in banking law and financial regulation from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
