Edward Canty has over 18 years’ experience acting exclusively within the sports industry, with a particular expertise in football. He is retained by numerous clients as the CRM and primary adviser through his experience and knowledge across a range of fields within sport, including sports governance, anti-doping, defamation, media & crisis management and dispute resolution.
Edward is a current Board Director of the Professional Footballers’ Association Company, PFA Enterprises Limited and has been an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland since January 2014. As part of his role with the CAS he has also been appointed to the specialist Football Panel for those arbitrators with specific expertise in football cases, leading to numerous appointments as an arbitrator on cases before the CAS.
Edward routinely advises on many of the key governance issues relating to football and is well regarded for his ability to operate in this area, interacting with many of the sport’s key stakeholders. He has led some of the most complex and high profile cases in football, acting on some of the most prominent criminal matters in football in recent years. Edward also leads the Centrefield team in relation to doping matters undertaken by the firm across various sports, representing numerous individual athletes and sports clubs/teams.
