Amir Singh Pasrich read law at Oxford and trained in London before returning to India at a time when the government of India had just started liberalising the economy in 1991–1992. From 1992 to 1996 he was an associate with the legendary Indian law firm of JB Dadachanji & Co as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India and as a corporate lawyer. He is managing partner of the law firm International Law Affiliates, which he co-founded in 1998. He has handled a wide variety of corporate advisory work coupled with litigation and arbitration. In 2006, Mr Pasrich was appointed ‘Agent of Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada’. He is adviser to several governments and High Commissions/Embassies in India. He has advised the Delegation of the European Commission, EADS, the Canadian High Commission, the French Embassy and several Fortune500 companies. He is also general counsel for Air France and KLM in India. He also acted as General Counsel to Fabindia one of India’s largest retail chains from 2008–2013.
Mr Pasrich has been co-chair of the International Sales Committee (from 2011–2013) of the International Bar Association (IBA) and a member of the IBA Council (2012–2014). He was an independent director on the board of Jindal Steel and Power Ltd from 2007 to 2009, and he was chair of the Indo-Canadian Business Chamber (North India). He has handled corporate contentious matters in the Supreme Court of India, various Indian High Courts and before specialist Tribunals/Commissions for competition law (the Competition Commission of India and Competition Appellate Tribunal), labour law, insolvency and financial reconstruction. Mr Pasrich has travelled over four continents and has presented papers at many conferences of the International Bar Association, Union Internationale des Avocates, Inter-Pacific Bar Association or IPBA, Law Asia and The Law Society of England and Wales both abroad and in India on commercial law subjects covering cross-border transactions, due diligence, joint ventures, e-commerce transactions, priority and title retention, international sales, competition law, labour law and aviation. Named one of the leading Indian lawyers in the 2014 Chambers, 2014 Legal 500 and Asia law; he has also been recognised as a ‘Leading Lawyer for General Corporate Practice’ by Asialaw. A citation in Chambers Asia described Mr Pasrich as ‘extremely methodical and rigorous’. He is also recommended as one of a few Indian practitioners in Who’s Who Legal for franchising, real estate and employment law. Mr Pasrich has authored the India chapters for international publications (Getting the Deal Through series) Product Liability, Product Recall, Real Estate and Air Transport. In 2013 he was a member of the government of India’s Expert Group on reform of the regulatory mechanism for the Prasar Bharati Broadcasting Corporation of India.
Amir Singh Pasrich holds a first degree in Science from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and a law degree MA (Oxon) from Worcester College, Oxford University; he speaks English, Hindi, Punjabi and some German. He has an ‘Oxford Blue’ for Polo and is an alumnus of the Doon School. He lives in the suburbs of New Delhi and is married with two children. He enjoys reading, polo, squash, golf and travel.
