Marco Palacios with over 23 years of experience, he focuses his practice on Intellectual Property, M&A and Corporate law, Licensing, Franchises, Banking and International Trade law. Served as First Secretary for the Guatemala Permanent Mission before the United Nations in New York, worked as Deputy Director of Commercial Affairs for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Has been an invited lecturer on IP, International Trade Relations and Economic Integration Law in various events under the auspices of WIPO, USPTO, the UNDP, US Chamber of Commerce, the Central American Economic Integration Secretariat (SIECA), the Inter-American Industrial Property Association (ASIPI), and Universities in Central America, Mexico, South America, and the United States of America. Served as senior consultant on IP, during 9 years, in a regional trade capacity building project executed by SIECA and sponsored by USAID. He formed part of the committees installed for the drafting of the current IP legislation in Guatemala; works of his authorship have been published in Central America and Mexico. He has counseled several acquisitions throughout all of the Central American countries, in the Dominican Republic and in other Caribbean and Latin American jurisdictions, in areas such as food and beverage, banking, pharmaceutical and chemistry, software. He counsels several companies in corporate governance, including in the banking sector. He has provided services as consultant to the World Intellectual Property Organization, to IDB funded projects. He is currently Vice-Chairperson-Guatemala for the Inter-American Institute for Copyright (IIDA) and a member of the Executive Board of the Interamerican Intellectual Property Association (ASIPI). He was named, by a Central American publication, as a member of the Central America “Legal Dream Team”.
