François Gilbert is Counsel in the Montréal office’s Banking group specialized in derivatives, structured finance and securitization, François Gilbert has extensive experience covering a broad spectrum of structures and product types in Canada, the UK and Europe. He has expertise pertaining to exchange traded derivatives, clearing and settlement systems, and the regulation of derivatives and financial market infrastructure. He was formerly Vice-President, Legal Affairs, Derivatives at the Bourse de Montréal where he acted as lead counsel in structuring and implementing CDCC's repo clearing platform for the Canadian fixed income market. He practiced in London for several years at a leading finance law firm where he represented international banks and investment funds on a wide range of structured finance transactions and developed significant expertise pertaining to public structured note offerings across Europe, as well as cash and synthetic transactions based on novel asset classes, such as project finance, trade finance, leveraged loans and emerging market debt. He is recognized in IFLR1000’s Guide to the World's Leading Financial Law Firms 2016 as a leading lawyer in financial services regulatory and by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2015, as a leading practitioner in the derivative instruments sector.Francois is a member of the Quebec and Ontario bars and a Solicitor in England and Wales.
