Cliisa Uba is a Senior Associate in the law firm of Adepetun,
Caxton-Martins, Agbor and Segun. Chisa was called to the
Nigerian Bar in September 1999 and has to her credit over 10
years practice and experience in general litigation, admiralty
and shipping matters.
Chisa advises a wide range of local and international clients
on Nigerian shipping laws and international maritime
conventions. Amongst others, Chisa advises on ship
financing, nationality issues of vessels, Nigerian Cabotage
regime, employment of seafarers and related issues. She has
represented buyers and sellers alike in several sale and
purchase of vessel transactions. She has been actively
involved in ship finance transactions and has perfected
Since the coming into force of the Nigerian Coastal and
Inland Shipping (Cabotage) Act 2003 in May 2004, Chisa
advises foreign and local clients alike on the said Act. She
processes and obtains waivers from the requirements of the
Cabotage Actfor vessels, foreign and local; she has processed
registration of several foreign and local vessels in the
Cabotage Special Register.
Chisa has extensive experience in litigation and represents
several clients before trial and appellate courts in Nigeria.
