Stewart Germann is acknowledged as New Zealand’s leading licensing and franchising lawyer. Stewart is a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and also a notary public, and he has a BCom in accounting and an LLB from the University of Auckland. He is the principal of Stewart Germann Law Office (SGL), a boutique licensing and franchising firm in Auckland, New Zealand. The firm is New Zealand’s longest-established specialist franchising firm and the winner of multiple awards.
Stewart was chairman of the Franchise Association of New Zealand (FANZ) from 1997 to 1999 and he has been involved in licensing and franchising law for over 35 years. Stewart specialises in licensing, franchising and the sale and purchase of businesses, although SGL undertakes a wide variety of other work as well. Stewart, who is included in Who’s Who Legal: Franchise 2017, is also a qualified mediator. In 2001, he was elected to the board of the Supplier Forum of the IFA and was the first person from outside the United States and Canada to be elected to this board, which he served on for six years.
Stewart has spoken at franchising conferences in New Zealand, Australia and the United States and he has extensive franchising contacts worldwide and locally. In 2014, Stewart was made a life member of the FANZ in recognition of his significant contribution. Stewart is passionate about licensing and franchising and welcomes enquiries from overseas.
