ROGERS & CO. ABOGADOS specializes in shipping, transport and insurance law and was founded in 2007 by Marie Rogers, Luis Alberto Garcia and David Diez, though the partners have worked together as a team since 2003. The firm is based in Madrid with a strong international marine insurance and reinsurance client base thanks to Marie’s background as a shipping lawyer at Clyde & Co LLP in London before moving to Spain 20 years ago.
Individually and/or as a firm, the partners have acted in key roles on some of the most complex and notorious shipping casualties in recent Spanish maritime history, including, the sinking of the MT“AEGEAN SEA” (Coruna 1992); the MT“PRESTIGE” (Coruna 2002); the FV“O’BAHIA (Coruna 2004); the “SAVINOSA” (Tarragona 2008); and the MV“DENEB” (Algeciras 2011), acting for owners, charterers, PandI and H&M underwriters, classification societies and subrogated cargo underwriters and recovery agents. More recently, the team is acting for oil terminal operators following the allision of the “VOLCAN DE TAMASITE” with the jetty Nelson Mandela in April 2017.
The team has acted on all types of shipping cases and their combined experience provides a solid understanding of the areas of shipping law covered by the GTDT, ranging from multimillion euro arrests of vessels in Spain (acting for and against vessel interests), judicial deposits, international bank foreclosures on ship mortgages, ownership disputes, to successfully bidding for clients in numerous PA auctions of abandoned vessels, PSC challenges on behalf of owners, salvage and wreck removal disputes, yacht damage and sinking, including loss of life, and acting in shipping insolvency claims in Spain and as experts for US litigation.
In 2017, ROGERS & CO. ABOGADOS was internationally recognized as one of the leading shipping law firms in Spain.
