Ryanair launches screen-scraping claim against Expedia

Ryanair has filed a lawsuit against Expedia in a US federal court accusing the online travel agent of illegally scraping flight and fare data from the Irish low-cost carrier’s website.


Avianca resolves Kingsland shareholder dispute

Avianca and its second-largest shareholder Kingsland Holdings have dropped separate lawsuits against each other, resolving a legal dispute that erupted at the start of the year over a proposed joint venture between the carrier and United Continental Holdings.


UK court hears extradition case against aviation tycoon

Lawyers instructed by India’s government have asked a London court to extradite Vijay Mallya, the former owner of now-defunct Indian carrier Kingfisher Airlines, so that he can stand trial for fraudulently obtaining and misusing funds loaned to the carrier.


DG Comp nears decisions on Air Berlin sales

The European Commission is expected to wave through easyJet’s €40 million acquisition of Air Berlin’s operations at Berlin Tegel Airport without conditions, as the enforcer considers a package of remedies proposed by Lufthansa to secure approval for its own expansion plans.


Mexican antitrust enforcer challenges government slot regulation

Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice will determine whether the country’s competition watchdog can unilaterally regulate essential facilities, after the government’s executive branch ignored measures the antitrust enforcer recommended to deal with allegedly anticompetitive airport slot allocation.

This week, the US Senate dropped proposals to begin taxing the corporate incomes of certain foreign carriers in a move that was widely seen as a direct challenge to Gulf airlines Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways. Elsewhere, Canada has fined Air Transat for tarmac delays and the European Commission has updated its EU Air Safety List, adding Venezuelan carrier Avior Airlines to the directory of non-European carriers banned from flying to and from the EU.
