On 23 June 2016, the UK electorate voted (by a 52 per cent to 48 per cent majority) to leave the EU. Since then, the leave vote, or Brexit, has caused much political, economic and legal uncertainty. On 29 March 2017, the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, triggered article 50 of the Treaty on European Union, formally starting the two-year withdrawal process.
